My Philosophy & Passion

Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.    - Carl Jung

This is one of my favorite quotes by Carl Jung. It perfectly encapsulates how I view the journey to becoming a good leader, friend, and partner to a horse. Often, what holds us back is our inability to confront the deep truths within ourselves. Horses, however, always see these truths. They have an uncanny ability to uncover our secret feelings, deepest hopes, and most guarded insecurities—revealing what lies within, waiting to bloom.

It is my passion to see the essence of the horse, to uncover what is inside and help it blossom. But it’s not enough to showcase the horse’s inherent abilities; it’s equally important to support the rider in discovering their potential and growing alongside their equine partner.

Within each person lies a deep stillness—a well of who they truly are. This is what I strive to awaken in each student and horse. This is what makes a ride truly beautiful. It’s not about the ribbons on the wall or the applause of an audience. It’s about the quiet dance, in balance and stillness, with the approval of the horse. As a trainer and coach, these are my goals for you and your horse. If this leads to someone joyously winning a gold medal or simply feeling a deep sense of happiness on a trail, then I have done my job.

To ride your horse into soundness should always be the rider's first goal.

              From Passion to Profession

              Early Years

Like many young girls, Sarah first fell in love with horses as a preteen, beginning her equestrian journey by working off lessons at a Hunter/Jumper barn. She fondly recalls practicing tempi changes on one of the schoolmasters—a moment that sparked her passion for technical riding. Sarah was fortunate to continue lessons throughout her teenage years and even briefly owned a horse. However, as adulthood approached, she stepped away from the equestrian world to focus on other life milestones.

During this time, Sarah met her husband and started a family, raising two boys. Yet, the call of horses never left her. Sarah decided to rekindle her passion and brought a horse back into her life. This pivotal decision marked the start of a transformative journey, where she devoted herself entirely to the equestrian world with renewed purpose and enthusiasm.

Development of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Expertise

Sarah's passion for holistic equine care led her to enroll in the Bridgecreek School of Massage, where she earned both Beginner and Advanced certifications in Equine Sports Massage Therapy. These courses covered a broad range of subjects, including several Massage Modalities, Biomechanics, Equine Kinesiology, Saddle Fitting, Hoof Care, Equine Nutrition, and Tincture making. Her education took a significant leap when she attended Dr. Deb Bennett’s Equine Anatomy Dissection and Biomechanics Course, where she was introduced to foundational philosophies of horsemanship and the intricate workings of equine anatomy—a turning point in her understanding of how horses actually function from the inside out.

Seeking to expand her knowledge further, Sarah delved into energy work, a field she found profoundly effective in addressing trauma. She enrolled in rigorous coursework with the Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Institute, where she earned certifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and as an Equine Acupressure Practitioner.

Throughout this journey, Sarah developed her own therapeutic technique, TSR (Therapeutic Stretch & Release), designed to realign the joints through movement, dynamic stretching, static stretching and active releasing horses from the ground. This innovative method has been instrumental in rehabilitating horses, both physically and mentally, providing long-term benefits for their overall soundness.

Sarah’s pursuit of knowledge extended into hoof care, a natural progression in her quest for holistic equine health. After acquiring her property in Stayton, OR, and establishing MoSa Ranch as a boarding facility, Sarah began taking on rehabilitation cases. Encouraged by her farrier, she apprenticed with Phil Smith of Sporthorse Shoeing, a certified lameness specialist with the E.L.P.O. This apprenticeship deepened her understanding of hoof health, enabling her to address complex hoof issues and enhance her ability to rehabilitate horses from the ground up. "No hoof, no horse."

              Riding Experience and Mentorship

While Sarah’s expertise in physical therapy and rehabilitation grew, she continued to refine her skills as a rider and trainer. Her journey included working as a student under Terraka Mishler, a respected trainer in Estacada, OR. She later studied with Carolyn Eddy, Clay Wright, and pursued lessons with Pippa Callanan, building a strong foundation in classical riding techniques.

Sarah also completed a year-long course in the Straightness Training Academy, further enhancing her understanding of biomechanics and alignment. She became a certified PEMF BEMER blanket distributor, adding this advanced therapeutic tool to her repertoire. Currently, Sarah continues her studies with Carol Lynn Mc Ardle, whose in-depth training methods complement her holistic approach.

In addition to her formal education, Sarah draws inspiration from a variety of renowned horsemen and equestrian scholars. Her mentors include Philip Karl, Nuno Oliveira, Buck Brannaman, Sally Swift, Nancy S. Loving DVM, Monty Roberts, Science of Motion founder Jean Luc Cornille Maitre, Clinton Anderson, Evidence-Based Horsemanship, Rolf Janzen, and Carlos Carneiro. These influences have shaped Sarah’s well-rounded approach to horsemanship, blending classical principles with modern techniques.

              Passion and Current Training Program

Today, Sarah is dedicated to growing her training business and sharing her expertise with riders and horses seeking greater balance and soundness. Her passion lies in addressing the "whole horse," ensuring both physical and mental well-being through customized training and rehabilitation programs.

Sarah works with a diverse range of riders, from endurance and upper-level dressage riders to pleasure riders, cutters, and hunter/jumpers. While her heart is in Classical Dressage, her methods are foundational and adaptable to any discipline.

An avid trail rider, Sarah firmly believes in the benefits of cross-training for every horse. Her goal is to foster harmonious partnerships between horse and rider, helping them achieve their fullest potential—whether in competition, on the trail, or simply through the joy of riding.
